US approves sale of Aegis Weapon System to Japan

The US Department of State has approved a USD2.15 billion Foreign Military Sale of two Aegis Weapon Systems to Japan, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced in a 29 January statement. Although not specified in the announcement, the sale is related to Tokyo's plans to deploy two land-based Aegis Ashore ballistic missile defence systems in the country by 2023.
