US Army plans $1.2 billion development of ground-launched hypersonic missile

At a time when China and Russia are racing ahead with hypersonic weapon development the US Army is eyeing a USD1.2 billion investment over the next five years to begin prototype testing of one it can launch from the ground. When the service delivered its fiscal year 2020 (FY 2020) budget request to Congress this month plans were included to move forward with a land-based hypersonic missile prototype that could be flight tested in 2023.
