Next US Army 'night court' round will free up $10 bn

US Army leaders are progressing with their next 'night court' round to determine which programmes will be cut or curtailed to fund modernisation priorities, with the aim of finding USD10 billion in savings between fiscal year 2021 (FY 2021) and FY 2025. Speaking to reporters during the AUSA Global Force Symposium & Exposition, held from 26 to 28 March in Huntsville, Alabama, Army Undersecretary Ryan McCarthy said the service's leadership has determined that it needs to find an additional USD10 billion to fund development of its six modernisation priorities: Long-Range Precision Fires, the Next-Generation Combat Vehicle (NGCV), Future Vertical Lift (FVL), networking, air and missile defence, and soldier lethality.
