Navy aims for full NATO interoperability

The Romanian Navy is structured to protect Romanian interests in the Black Sea and on the Danube River. The navy has an active strength of 20, 144 personnel, of which 12,081 are conscripts. Subordinate to the Chief of Naval Staff are the Naval Fleet Command for operations on the Black Sea, the Danube Flotilla Command and a 10,000-strong Naval Infantry Corps responsible mainly for coastal defence.
