Irish Army continues re-equipment drive

The Irish Army received the last of 20 Iveco EuroCargo 4 x 4 trucks last month. In service, these trucks will be used primarily as cargo/troop transports. Following an international tender in April 2000, Iveco won the contract on 26 June that year. Bids were also received from three others: DAF Ireland; Mercedes-Benz (Atego 1319A); and Renault Ireland (Renault 220.13HD 16). Bidders were scored on: 1. suitability for deployment in Ireland and overseas; 2. overall cost; 3. technical merit; 4. functional characteristics; 5. maintenance and technical support; and 6. after-sales service and warranty terms.
