US moves closer to status of forces deal with Iraq

Iraq and the United States moved closer on 6 November to reaching a deal that would have US combat forces out of Iraqi cities by June 2009 and out of the country by the end of 2011. Iraqi and US officials are striving to agree on an agreement governing the status of US troops beyond the 31 December expiry of their UN mandate.
