摘要

SAFRAN has agreed to purchase Motorola's biometric business unit in a deal that follows an aborted attempt by the French group to increase its US homeland security footprint earlier this year. The latest deal - approved by both SAFRAN and Motorola and announced on 15 October -will be concluded through SAFRAN's Sagem Securite unit, which also provides biometric identifi-cation systems. Motorola's California-based biometric unit designs and develops automated fingerprint identification systems for law enforcement, civil and commercial customers. SAFRAN expects the deal to close by the first quarter of 2009. Terms were not disclosed. Jane's reported in June that Sageme Securite had made an unsolicited USD300 million bid to acquire the Secure ID business of US secure identity and media management solutions specialist Digimarc Corporation. The deal did not proceed.
