Iran's Defence Industries Organisation (DIO) has commenced production of a 'new generation' of medium- and long-range air-defence and surveillance radar systems, according to the Iranian Ministry of Defence. Among these is a 'phased array' system capable of tracking aircraft and ballistic missiles at medium and high altitudes. This system is reported to be capable of discriminating between small targets such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and large birds.
