UK plans to homeport all RN submarines at Faslane

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) unveiled plans on 6 May to homeport all Royal Navy (RN) submarines at HM Naval Base Clyde at Faslane, Scotland, from 2017. Announcing the findings of the Maritime Change Programme facilities review, the MoD said that the new Astute-class submarines and the replacements for the Vanguard-class ballistic missile submarines will all be based at Faslane. Devonport naval base in Plymouth, on England's southwest coast, will cease to be a submarine base in 2017, following the completion of major maintenance periods for the final three Trafalgar-class boats.
