French shipbuilder DCNS delivered the Royal Malaysian Navy's first submarine at a ceremony in Toulon on 27 January. KD Tunku Abdul flaftman, which completed its sea trials in late December 2008, is the first of two 67.5 m Scorpene boats ordered by Malaysia in June 2002 and developed jointly by DCNS and Spanish shipbuilder Navantia. The trials included successful firings of WASS Black Shark heavyweight torpedoes and MBDA SM39 Exocet subsurface-to-surface missiles, DCNS said. KD Tunku Abdul Rahman'isdueto arrive in Malaysia early in the second half of 2009, and sister-ship KD Tun Razakis scheduled for delivery in late 2009.
