USAF to boost presence in Iraq as drawdown nears

The US Air Force's (USAF's) mission in Iraq is to increase over the coming months as it prepares to support the planned withdrawal of all remaining US forces from the country by the end of 2011, it disclosed on 30 August. With Operation 'New Dawn' winding down, the USAF will be increasing its contribution to Iraqi operations with the provision of intelligence, surveillance and recon- naissance (ISR), armed overwatch, close air support (CAS) and strategic airlift to the withdrawing forces.
