Chengdu J-10s may have been tested with Taihang engine

Recently surfaced images indicate that the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC) J-10 fighter has passed a significant milestone in being tested with an indigenous Chinese turbofan. The engine in question is most probably a version of the WS-10A Taihang. The nearly 200 J-1 OA fighters manufactured to date have been powered by the 12,745 kg (28,100 Ib) thrust Russian Saturn AL-31FN, which features a relocated engine gearbox to fit the J-1 OA airf rame. A USD500 million order in early July for 123 AI-31FNs brought Chengdu's total orderforthe power-plants to 399.
