摘要

The Chief of Russia's Naval Aviation Command, Major General Igor Kozhin, has outlined his plans for the future of the service, highlighting the difficulty of training and retaining carrier pilots as one of his major challenges. Gen Kozhin, who was interviewed by Russian state news service RIA Novosti in late July, said that training Russian carrier pilots can cost up to USD1.5-USD2 million per year: more than the sum invested in some US Navy aviators trained to fly off STOVL (short take-off/vertical landing) and CATOBAR (catapult-assisted takeoff but arrested recovery) carriers.
