Uganda has taken delivery of the first two of six Sukhoi Su-30 MK2 'Flanker' strike aircraft from Russia, a spokesman for the Ugandan People's Defence Force (UPDF) told Jane's on April 14."They have arrived safe and sound," Lieutenant Colonel Felix Kulayigye said from the capital, Kampala. Repeated requests to the UPDF's air wing for elaboration as to the training plans for pilots and other maintenance issues were rebuffed.Uganda's 'Flanker' purchase was formerly shrouded in secrecy, with Kampala going so far as to deny that it was buying the aircraft in 2010, following the announcement of their sale by Russian state media. No timeline has been announced for the deliveries. The total sale price is being estimated at USD200 million.
