The United States will not deploy nuclear tactical weapons in South Korea, despite growing calls from Seoul for a stronger deterrent against Pyongyang, two top officials have said. General Walter Sharp, Commander of US Forces Korea, reiterated the US position on 20 June: a week after Gary Samore, special assistant on WMD to US President Barack Obama, had said such a deployment "would have no military value".
