US Army to retire final European-based Hueys

The US Army is to shortly retire the last of its Bell UH-1H 'Huey' utility helicopters operating in Europe, it announced on 5 April. The final four helicopters will be withdrawn from operations by the Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC) at Hohenfels, Germany, after nearly 40 years of service in the European theatre. A ceremony to mark the occasion will take place on 27 April. Since the Hueys arrived at Hohenfels in the early 1970s, the JMRC has operated the type primarily in a training capacity.
