Ghana inducts ex-S Korea FACs

A refurbished Sea Dolphin-class (PKM) fast attack craft (FAC) donated by South Korea was commissioned into the Ghanaian Navy (GN) on 21 January. GNS Stephen OW(P33) re-entered service as the West African nation embarks on a procurement programme that includes two second-hand Gepard-class FACs from Germany and five new-build patrol vessels from China and South Korea. Stephen Otu was built by Korea Tacoma Marine Industries and commissioned into the Republic of Korea Navy in 1982 as PKM 237. Decommissioned in 2008, the vessel was transferred to Ghana in September 2010 and arrived at Tema Harbour on 9 December.
