Indian Navy seeks 56 utility helos

The Indian Navy (IN) issued a global request for proposals (RfP) on 7 August for 56 naval utility helicopters (NUHs) to augment by 2016 its surveillance, electronic intelligence-gathering, search-and-res-cue, casualty evacuation and anti-piracy capability. The contract is valued at around USD900 million. Other than the 56 twin-engine NUHs weighing 4.5 tonnes, the RfP - issued to Anglo-Italian firm AgustaWestland, Eurocopter, Kamov of Russia and United States' Boeing, Bell and Sikorsky - also specified the acquisition of three simulators, 28 spare engines and related equipment.
