Storm Shadow begins Typhoon integration trials

Work to integrate the MBDA Storm Shadow cruise missile onto the Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft has begun in Italy, it was announced on 28 November. Alenia Aermacchi commenced flight trials the previous day aboard the twin-seat Instrumented Production Aircraft 2 (IPA2) updated to the Phase 1 Enhancement standard. Euro-fighter partner companies BAE Systems and Cassidian are assisting with the trials at Decimo-mannu Air Base in Sardinia. The 1,300 kg Storm Shadow missile is being integrated onto the Typhoon as part of the Phase 2 Enhancement programme to introduce new combat capabilities to the multirole platform.
