Bofors 40 Mk4 cannon: rapid response

The BAE Systems Bofors 40 Mk4 cannon has been designed to offer flexibility and agility to rapidly respond to a wide range of naval threats. It combines low weight in a compact mount with long range and a high rate of fire (up to 300 rounds per minute). Agility is provided by the very short firing time: less than half a second from warning to destruction. It is flexible thanks to its programmable 3P ammunition, which also reduces the logistics chain as fewer types of rounds are required. Among the six programmable effects is an air-burst option, which is of particular value against small boat targets and against concealed littoral targets.
