USMC commander laments amphibious ship shortage

US forces in the Asia-Pacific region need more amphibious ships in order to be ready for multiple contingencies, according to a senior US Marine Corps (USMC) officer. USMC Lieutenant General John Wissler, commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force and commander of Marine Forces Japan, said on 11 April that the USMC needs 24 amphibious ships in the Pacific.
