Finland to order Stinger missiles

Finland is planning a EUR90 million (USD122 million) order for Raytheon Stinger man-portable air-defence systems (MAN-PADS), the Finnish Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 29 January 2014. According to the MoD, deliveries will run from 2014 to 2017, Finland first requested Stinger missiles from the United States in November 2011, with the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) detailing a request for 600 Stinger FIM-92C Reprogrammable Microprocessor (RMP) missiles and related equipment and support valued at USD330 million. Unlike the DSCA request for new missiles, the ones to be bought for Finland are from ex-US Army stocks. These will be refurbished to match the latest Block 1 version.
