Switzerland reallocates Gripen funds

The Swiss Federal Council has approved an amendment to the country's 2015 Armament Programme to add four more acquisitions valued at CHF874 (USD893 million). Approval for the programmes came on 12 August. The aim is to fill capability gaps by releasing funds that had previously been set aside for the procurement of Gripen fighters: an acquisition that was halted in 2014 as a result of a popular vote that went against the purchase. Switzerland is now looking to recommence efforts to replace its F-5E Tiger aircraft inventory in 2017.
