The US Air Force (USAF) will temporarily use contract maintenance for some legacy active-duty aircraft in fiscal year 2017 (FY 2017) through FY 2020 in order to allow experienced mechanics to be trained for duty with the Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning Ⅱ Joint Strike Fighter, the USAF said in a 12 February press statement.
