Chile starts to modernise army trucks

The Chilean Army has begun an effort to update its ageing military truck fleet under Projecto Alfil (Bishop Project). The replacement comes at a time when more than 40% of the army's current fleet is 25 years old or more, while the ideal standard is to have an average maximum of 10 years. Army chief General Humberto Oviedo said that, while the project was planned before, resources to start the process only became available in 2016. Gen Oviedo said the bidding process had concluded, but did not say who had competed.
