Airbus Defence and Space satellite imagery captured on 28 April shows China's new Type 001A aircraft carrier berthed at Dalian Shipyard adja-cent to the dry dock it occupied during construction. The aircraft carrier was launched two days earlier. Assembly of the Type 001A hull, based on the carrier Liaon-ing currently serving with the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), began within the dry dock in March 2015. Chinese media reported that work on the hull began in December 2014. This likely involved initial metal cutting and component assembly prior to work in the dry dock beginning.
