Chinese puzzle: CAAC strives to boost general aviation in face of constraints

General aviation (GA) in China is set to grow despite fluctuations in the global economy, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), but a number of hurdles remain. Globally there are approximately 340,000 GA aircraft, of which the US accounts for about 70 per cent. The US also accommodates 17,500 GA airports and helicopter pads. A total of 31,000 GA aircraft operate in Canada, while Australia, Russia and Brazil all have more than 10,000 GA aircraft respectively.
