Several European airport operators saw revenue growth from food and beverage (F&B) operations outpace duty-free shopping in 2016, as passengers reined in discretionary spending. Aena Aeropuertos of Spain generated EUR154.5 million (USD166.9 million) revenue from F&B, dwarfed by the EUR285.2 million from its duty-free shops. However, F&B grew by 17% while duty-free only increased by 13.6%.
