The head of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) believes that 3D computed tomography (CT) checkpoint scanners will be installed at almost all commercial airports in the US in the coming years. Speaking at a security summit in Arlington on 4 December, David Pekoske said that CT technology offers "significant security improvements" at airport checkpoints. "This is really good for us," he added. "It improves our ability to detect threats and they are very different from the previously deployed machines." Ultimately, he added, detection performance will improve so that "passengers will not have to take anything out of their bags".
