Minneapolis' First Commuter Bicycle Trail: Cedar Lake Trail

This is the first part of the City's Bicycle Plan to be constructed. The City hopes that user-friendly trails such as the Cedar Lake Trail will increase the number of nonmotorized commuters entering the central business ' district (CBD). In 1990 the city had 2,300 bicyclists entering the CBD, a 15 percent increase over the 1987 cordon count. The city's goal is to double the number of bicyclists entering the CBD by providing these barrier-free, pleasant, safe routes. Serious cycling commuters simply appreciate a safe surface and the flat and straight alignment of the trail. This is a genuine success story of local, regional, state and federal government and residents forming partnerships.
