The role of telecommunications/ information and communication technologies on climate change and the protection of the environment

This new resolution seeks to establish a sound basis for ITU's work surrounding the role of telecommu-nications/ICT in climate change and the protection of the environment. It acknowledges that ICT contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, but also play an important role in tackling climate change and protecting the environment.rnITU is called upon to continue leading and developing activities in this area, in particular promoting awareness of the environmental issues surrounding telecommunication/ICT equipment and encouraging energy efficiency in the design and manufacture of such equipment to promote a clean and safe environment.
