Dive into jQuery, Part 2: Power Features for Ajax

In Part 1 of this two-part series, I explored the fundamentals of jQuery, one of the most popular rich internet application (RIA) frameworks ("Dive into jQuery, Part 1: A Refresher," May 2013, bit.ly/Xz75t8). In this article, I'll show you how to take jQuery to the next level as part of an RIA that incorporates Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax) for responsive web applications. Almost all web applications use Ajax to some degree. Ajax makes it possible to update portions of a web page immediately, usually in response to some user action. This makes your apps more responsive-they work faster because the server isn't transmitting an entire page of data, just the piece or pieces necessary to update the page.
