These catamaran-style ferries, built in Norway and Finland in two different sizes, consist entirely of aluminium. The larger type, HSS 1500, can take up to 100 cars and 50 lorries on its two decks and travels at a speed of up to 40 knots (approx. 47 mph). This ferry, the first of a planned total of five, will be used for the Holyhead—Dublin crossing.
