The European Shippers' Council (ESC) took the opportunity presented by a major European Union maritime forum that the EU put on in Brussels at the end of March to once again voice shippers' critical assessment of tariff policies; it also raised the issue of the lack of reliability and punctuality of large container shipping lines. The ESC has ascertained that the fact that carriers offer poor service quality and increasing costs for the transfer of goods between their ships and land destroys the efficiency gains made by shippers, ports, terminal operators and forwarders in the maritime part of the supply chain. It believes that this represents a massive disturbance of market mechanisms.
