New Car Throughput At Record Levels

The port of Turku in southern Finland handled approximately 94,000 cars in 2008. This amounted to 28% more than the previous year. The port is taking advantage of the low construction costs arising from the global economic crisis to expand further.rnMore new cars than ever before were imported through southwest Finland's port of Turku last year. The throughput for this type of cargo jumped by 28% to 93,577 units. Freight handling as a whole declined to 3.4 million t, and 3.6 million passengers passed through the port.
