摘要

Piracy in Asia largely disappeared from the headlines last year, as public attention on the subject turned to activities off the coast of West Africa. But the situation in the world's largest continent is anything but reassuring. Now the Information Sharing Centre (ISC) of Recaap (the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia) has stated in its annual report for 2014 that the number of piracy attacks and armed robbery of ships increased last year. The Singapore-based office said that 183 incidents took place in the year under review. 168 were considered «actual incidents», and 15 categorised as attempts that were averted. The ISC classified 13 events (7%) in category 1, that is to say very significant, 41 (or 23%) as moderately significant, and 114 (62%) in category 3, which means that they were considered less significant, or were petty theft matters of minimum significance.
