The volume of cane crushed in Brazil's Centre/South (CS) dropped by 9.2% in the second half of September from the same period last year as excess rains hampered harvesting, according to Unica, the cane industry association. Cane crushing stood at 27.2 million tonnes, down 27% from the previous fortnight and more than 35% less than in the second half of August, when dry weather sped up harvesting. Unica said that although strong rains in the last weeks of September hindered crushing, cane yields are unlikely to be affected adversely.
