摘要

In their latest book on emotional labor, Sharon Mastracci, Mary Guy, and Meredith Newman examine how public servants "do" emotional labor by studying public servants for whom emotional labor, is a matter of psychological survival: crisis responders to catastrophic events ranging from domestic violence to sexual assault, from homicide to hurricanes. The study follows the authors' well-received 2008 book that identified emotional labor as an additional means of understanding public sector decision making, beyond the assumptions of scientific management and organizational rationality (Guy, Newman, and Mastracci 2008).
