The use is discussed of melt-blown fibrous polymer carriers (FPCs) as biomass carriers of aerobic filters for the biorecycling of waste water pollutants and gas emissions. FPCs were obtained by melt blowing from PP and PP filled with dispersed strontium ferrite. On formation by melt-blowing, the FPCs electrified spontaneously and acquired an electrical polarisation charge. Parameters characterising the composition, fibrous porous structure and electret and magnetic properties of FPC specimens are presented. Their advantages as carriers of microorganisms are their considerable porosity and the specific surface of the fibres. The adsorption and immobilisation of microorganisms on the carriers was studied and the results indicated that the electret charge of FPCs had an appreciable influence on the kinetics of accumulation of biomass. 3 refs.
