The development of a mathematical model of the time-dependent drift of plasticiser molecules in amorphous polymers such as poly(vinyl chloride)(PVC) which takes account of diffusion processes is presented. The effects of desorption of plasticiser on service properties of PVC are discussed in terms of the comparison of thermal stability of plasticised and unplasticised PVC as determined experimentally by DTG. 11 refs.
