Mobilities: New Perspectives on Transport and Society while focusing primarily on the UK also draws on case study material and contributors from other parts of Europe (Switzerland, France and Germany) as well as Sub-saharan Africa and Dubai. It is an impressive volume of 17 substantive chapters and runs to over 360 pages. In this volume edited by Margaret Grieco and John Urry, a range of major social science concepts, including inter alia, distance, proximity, public space, consumption, accessibility and exclusion, are brought together in an ambitious project trying to draw very different disciplines together- transport and social science. While this inter-disciplinary focus is to be commended, it is at times also one of the weaknesses of the volume.
