With more than two thirds of the Earth's surface covered in water, it's no wonder that man has continuously sought to explore and literally "get to the bottom" of its oceans and waterways. Building on this innate need to understand the unknown, the modern world has developed technology that has significantly increased the ability to collect and process data, enabling society to gather and organise far more information than previously possible.
