RN supports trials of micro-AUVs

The innovative marine robot ecoSUB has been successfully trialled off the Orkney Islands in northern Scotland during a marine robot demonstrator mission coordinated by the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), UK. The micro-AUV, developed by Planet Ocean, UK, in partnership with the NOC, is less than one metre in length and weighs only four kilograms. Despite its small size, it is capable of diving to 500 metres and has sufficient battery power to stay underwater for several hours.
