This excellent collection of essays is the result of four years' discussions and workshops among their authors. Funded by the National University of Singapore and the Toda Foundation in Honolulu, their research was aimed at examining the impacts of globalization on civil spaces in a number of Pacific Asian cities. As is increasingly common today, the authors are drawn from a variety of countries and represent multiple disciplines. Urban studies is a transdisciplinary enterprise.
