Since its publication in 2008, Inheriting the City has received many positive reviews and accolades that have marked it as one of the most extensive and compelling studies of second-generation immigrant incorporation in the United States. It reports on a massive amount of survey and ethnographic data (3,415 telephone interviews and 333 in-depth interviews) comparing the top second-generation immigrant groups in the New York City metropolitan area, Dominicans, South Americans (Colombians, Peruvians, Ecuadorians), West Indians, Chinese and Russian Jews, to native-born Puerto Ricans, African-Americans and whites.
