This new book extends the trajectory of Christian Kettler's earlier effort, The God Who Believes (Cascade Books, 2005). Where that work focused mainly on matters of faith and doubt, the present volume takes up the theme of joy in relation to despair. Both books show the author's desire to infuse the ordinary life of Christian faith with deep and perhaps insufficiently appropriated truths of Christology. Specifically, Kettler proposes that we see the vicarious humanity of Christ as essential for understanding and resolving 'the problem of joy'.
