In this work, an equilateral triangular dielectric resonator antenna(ETDRA) is modeled as a source free dielectric cavity, bounded by perfectmagnetic conductor to investigate its radiation characteristics for variousTM_(mnp)~z modes. Closed form compact expressions are provided to compute thefar-zone radiation patterns for different TM_(mnp)~z modes. Radiated power, qualityfactor, gain, efficiency, bandwidth, etc. are also investigated. Theoretical farfieldradiation patterns are compared with simulated (HFSS) data for first fivemodes that is, TM_(101),TM_(111),TM_(201),TM_(211) and TM_(301) modes. Theoretical farfieldpatterns are also verified with measured data (our own experimental dataand data available, as found in the open literature) for TM_(101),TM_(201) and TM_(211)modes. It is found that three modes out of first five modes produce a peak inthe broad-side direction. From this investigation, it is also found that differentETDRAs having a fixed value of aspect ratio (side length/height) producealmost same radiated powers, Q-factor, bandwidth, efficiency, etc. for a fixedvalue of relative permittivity.
