Introduction to the Characterisation of Residual Stress by Neutron Diffraction

After nearly a quarter-century of active research, residual stress measurement by neutron diffraction has come of age. There are now instruments with which engineering measurements can be made at nearly all neutron facilities, the first generation of dedicated instruments designed to measure strain in engineering components has been commissioned, and industrial standards for the reliable and repeatable measurement of strain have been drafted.
