摘要

The mechanism failure in thin Al 8011 aluminium plates has been experimentally investigated. Experimentations have been carried out on pin-loaded single-edge-notched (SEN) tensile specimen with varied notch size, plate thickness and material conditions. The results have shown that the failure of eccentrically loaded edge notch specimens is a typical combination of tensile and bending loads. It is also seen that age hardening has reduced the load-carrying capacity of the plates. The fractographic analysis has been made to identify the nature of failure as a function of plate thickness, notch size and the material conditions. The specimen preparation and the experimentations have been carried out according to the ASTM standards.
