The technological pundits are expounding upon, business people are implementing and even the water-cooler jargon is buzzing with The Cloud and Big Data, but both of those concepts demand Big Storage in order to function - you can't build a useful cloud platform on a 16 GB memory stick! Unfortunately, despite predicted cost savings, most IT managers are having to implement tomorrow's technology on yesterday's budget, with a consequent need to find solutions that yield more storage per dollar, while maintaining the required access to corporate data. Dealing with increasing regulation- often carrying severe penalties for failure to comply - only serves to stimulate the innovative juices.
